All-time low, while NAND is tight
HotHardware (August 29, 2026) called this an all-time low against CamelCamelCamel history: the drive sat at list until late July, eased after that, and only now hit this limited-time Amazon price. Tom’s Hardware (August 28, 2026) covered the same 36 percent cut as a Gen 4 all-rounder deal in a storage market that is not getting cheaper.
That tightness is why a builder would act today. NAND and DRAM supply is constrained, and our DRAM pricing note already walked through what contract spikes do to a parts list. A 2TB PCIe 4.0 drive at this discount is the kind of restock that does not linger.
Do not confuse this with the 990 PRO
The 990 PRO 2TB is a different product: SKU MZ-V9P2T0B/AM, Amazon ASIN B0BHJJ9Y77. Do not pitch this 990 as a Pro substitute. The PRO holds sustained writes better, carries a longer warranty, and uses onboard DRAM. This 990 does not.
Samsung’s own spec sheet lists Samsung V-NAND, an in-house controller, Host Memory Buffer (HMB) instead of dedicated DRAM, PCIe 4.0 x4 and NVMe 2.0, sequential ratings up to 7,250 / 6,450 MB/s, and a three-year limited warranty or 800TBW on the 2TB SKU. Samsung does not name TLC versus QLC on that sheet. Tom’s Hardware and HotHardware both describe the NAND as QLC. Newegg lists the cache as HMB, matching Samsung. Those sequential numbers are manufacturer ratings. Hardpulse has not lab-tested this SKU.
Our best SSDs of 2026 guide still cards the 990 PRO 2TB from older price checks. Do not treat those PRO figures as today’s street price for this 990. Hardpulse has no dedicated 990 (non-Pro) deal page besides this note.
The 1TB sibling (ASIN B0H1NH99GX) is a weaker percent-off. If you are buying this family, buy the 2TB. For the rest of a build, use the PC build walkthrough.

FAQ
Is the Samsung 990 the same as the 990 PRO? No. Same “990” badge, different SKU. The PRO keeps DRAM and a longer warranty and holds sustained writes better. Confirm MZ-V9V2T0B/AM and ASIN B0H1N9X2QR before checkout — not MZ-V9P2T0B/AM.
Is the 1TB 990 the same deal? No. Tom’s Hardware noted a much smaller percent-off on the 1TB sibling. The 2TB is the cut worth chasing.
